Public Health Care
The Public health care is a free of charge service provided by the municipality of residence and it is for all families with infants/toddlers and school children, but also for prospective parents if needed.
Everyone who gives birth will be contacted by the municipality of residence to take advantage of its services. If you bring children to Denmark, the public health care offers support. This could be answering questions, give advice or help you with concerns related to the development of your child.
The public health care offers individual guidance at your home, open house events with other mothers and children, and they offer to make connections between mothers through establishing “mother groups”.
Activities for Homebound Parents
Several activities take place for homebound parents in Herning and Ikast-Brande municipalities. Here is a list of activities during the daytime and several opportunities to meet up with other parents.
- Some churches organize playgroups (search for “Legestue” plus city)
- Baby carol singing is offered by various churches in the municipalities
- Many libraries offer activities for children. Read more and find your local library here

- Other activities for parents and babies are offered by the training organizations; AOF and FOF

Stammtisch – the Danish Contact for Accompanying Spouses!
Are you new to the area? And would like to meet the locals and get to know more about the opportunities here? Stammtisch offer that opportunity to women living in and around the town Brande.
Stammtisch is a community of volunteers in Brande who want to meet new people, expand the horizon and worldviews. Both the local and newcomers can join or host a Stammtisch. It takes place in private houses and the host decides the date, time and if you should have a meal, snack, wine etc. The main purpose is the social interaction, creating relations and to have a good time.
You are never fully bound if you sign up for participating in a Stammtisch.
Stammtisch started in 2010. A Dane, two German and one Polish lady decided to meet up privately while taking turns in hosting their informal meetings. Stammtisch is an open club for internationals and internationally minded Danes who want to meet new relations while staying in the area.
